Travel sleeper class in South India

Shoe-string Budget Travel:
Tip 1. Travel Economy Class
This one is a no brainer. Travelling economy class in airlines is a simple solution. But on trains & buses, it will be a little difficult.

If you are travelling in South India, you can comfortably travel second-class sleeper coach (if you reserved it). The cost will be one-third or one-fourth of three-tier AC sleeper tickets.

This is a surprise even for many north-indians, where reserved compartments of second class sleeper coaches were crammed with all types of people & luggage. Reservation doesn't have a respect in second class there. In contrast, the second class sleeper coaches in south india were as good as AC 3-tier coaches minus the air-conditioning. Ticket inspectors are prompt in allowing only reserved travellers & generally people will also comply.

If you are travelling in night or in rainy - winter seasons, II class sleeper (Class SL in railways) is just as good. Besides you get airy windows & easy view of places as you travel.

Many executive travellers opt for Sleeper Class in south India when they travel on their own money! This is one option where you can travel economically without much discomfort.
